NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The number of Covid-19 infections linked to a major wholesale market for farm products in the Northeast has jumped to 270, prompting authorities to extend its closure to Sept 25.
Last Sunday, the provincial communicable disease committee closed Talad Suranaree until Sept 15 after 79 of 1,444 traders tested positive.
By Friday, the number of cases found at the market, the largest wholesale market for fresh produce in the Northeast, rose to 187.
Another 55 customers and vendors at other markets who bought from Talad Suranaree and 28 family members of the previously infected cases brought the total to 270 cases on Friday.
The provincial communicable disease control panel extended the closure of the marketplace until Sept 25 in a bid to control the spread of the disease.
Health officials continued to conduct mass testing using antigen test kits at other markets where vendors bought produce from Talad Suranaree.
