New coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire increased last week for the fifth week in a row.
The Scottish Government today confirmed there had been another 68 cases recorded in the county yesterday.
As a result, there were 545 positive tests in the region last week – up by 20 on the previous week.
In the same week, NHS Lanarkshire hit the 50 per cent mark for adults who are now fully vaccinated against coronavirus - while the number of people to have received their first dose in the region also topped 400,000.
Last week was the fifth consecutive week in which Covid-19 cases have increased after falling to their lowest level for eight months at the end of April.
However, the rate of increase fell from 86 per cent two weeks ago to just three per cent last week.
Case numbers in Lanarkshire are still down by 76 per cent since the new year peak in the week beginning January 4, when 2353 were confirmed.
The rate of cases in Lanarkshire is also around half that of neighbouring Glasgow City, which has one of the highest rate in the country.
Deaths from coronavirus also remain at their lowest levels since last summer, however one person died in the past week after testing positive.
In total, 43,021 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire and 1324 people have died from the virus.
Lanarkshire has been the worst affected region in Scotland by coronavirus with 6499.6 cases and 200 deaths for every 100,000 residents.
Across the region, 416,389 people – 78.7 per cent of the adult population – have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccination and 276,265 of them – 52.2 per cent of the adult population – have received both doses.
