Covid cases force Kilmarnock primary school to close early for Christmas

A Kilmarnock school has been forced to close early for Christmas following a surge in coronavirus infections.

Annanhill Primary will switch to remote learning ahead of the festive holidays.

In a letter to parents, the school's head teacher admitted that it was "very difficult for us to continue in a safe way."

Emma Johnstone added: "I am unfortunately writing to inform you of a school closure.

"It is with deep regret that the school is now in a position where it will be very difficult for us to continue in a safe way.

"The cases over the past few days have put a serious strain on staffing."

The move was announced this evening and has been confirmed by the leader of East Ayrshire Council, Douglas Reid.
