Covid case confirmed at Bristol school - students isolating

Multiple year groups are reportedly isolating at a Bristol primary school after confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Dozens of pupils at Whitehall Primary School, based on Johnson's Lane, will not be returning to classrooms until after the Easter holidays following positive lab tests in several classes.

Some of the children had only been back in school for a few days when their class bubble was shut.

A message sent out to Year 1 parents reads: "Dear Parent/Carers We have just been informed that there has been a positive case of COVID in the Year 1 Bubble.

"Therefore, your child will need to stay at home. More details will follow later. Apologies for the short notice. Thank you for your understanding."

Bristol Live has been told several other year groups are also isolating.

Since all pupils returned to classrooms on March 11, a number of Bristol schools have been hit with Covid.

These include Oasis Academy Bank Leaze, in Lawrence Weston, Ashton Gate Primary School and Bedminster Down School.

Testing

All households with school age children should be tested twice-weekly, the Government has said.

The tests are available to whole families and households with children in primary school, secondary school or college.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said rapid testing detects cases quickly – in under 30 minutes – meaning positive cases can isolate immediately.
