COVID case rise puts off New Year's Day party planning in Pitlochry

Four months ahead of the event, Pitlochry New Year's Day Street Party has been cancelled.

The uncertainties brought about by the current rise in COVID cases have been blamed.

Every January 1 for decades past, the main street of the Highland Perthshire town has been thronged with daytime dancing revellers and bucket collections have brought in thousands of pounds for local causes.

It had to be cancelled in 2021 but everyone had hoped that by next January 1, the world would be back to normal.

A spokesperson for the event posted on Pitlochry News Facebook page: “Due to ongoing uncertainties and rising COVID-19 cases in Scotland, the PNYSP committee regrets - once again - taking the difficult decision not to proceed with the street party for January 1, 2022.

“The safety of our team of volunteers, regular contributors and visitors to Pitlochry remains our highest and key priority.

“Wishing everyone good health and contentment in the months ahead.”
