Covid case numbers in Bristol region near grim milestone as a further 599 confirmed

Covid case numbers in the Bristol region are nearing a grim milestone as a further 599 infections were recorded today.

It brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire since the pandemic began to 97,779.

Bristol’s Covid infection rate remains worryingly high, at 445.8 cases per 100,000 people, trumping the UK rate of 349.6.

Thankfully, no new deaths were recorded in the Bristol region according to the latest data.

Bristol city recorded 300 new infections today while South Gloucestershire recorded 192 and North Somerset 107.

Bristol’s total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic currently sits at 53,835.

UK wide, a further 38,046 cases were recorded which brings the total number of cases to 6,666,399.

The UK has recorded 100 new Covid-related deaths, bringing the total number to 132,243 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 53,835 (+300)

  • North Somerset - 16,960 (+107)

  • South Gloucestershire - 26,984 (+192)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region, with any increase in brackets, is as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 505 (-)

  • North Somerset - 322 (-)

  • South Gloucestershire - 364 (-)
