Covid: Bristol region records 480 new covid cases as infection rate soars

There have been 480 new cases of coronavirus in the Bristol region in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data.

Thankfully no new deaths have been recorded, but case numbers are on the rise, and so are infection rates.

Bristol and South Gloucestershire’s Covid rates are below 190, whereas North Somerset’s rate is 238.9.

That is far below the UK rate of 322, though.

But it is Bristol city that saw the most new cases in the last 24 hours, with 216 recorded.

South Gloucestershire recorded a further 133 infections and North Somerset 131.

That brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic in the Bristol region to 108,901.

UK wide, 32,417 cases of coronavirus were recorded in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases to 7,664,230.

Meanwhile the nation saw 58 more Covid-related deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 136,168.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

  • Bristol: 59,236 (+216)

  • South Gloucestershire: 30,102 (+133)

  • North Somerset: 19,563 (+131)

  • Bristol: 528 (-)

  • South Gloucestershire: 376 (-)

  • North Somerset: 331 (-)
