Covid boosters to be rolled out to all adults in England sooner than planned

All adults in England, aged 18 and over, will be offered a coronavirus booster jab before the New Year, the Prime Minister has said.

In an address to the nation, Boris Johnson has urged everyone eligible to "get boosted now", as the Omicron strain of the virus spreads in the UK.

He has confirmed everybody aged 18 and over will have the chance to get their booster before the New Year, bringing the previous target of boosting all adults by the end of January forward by an entire month.

Speaking on Sunday night, Boris Johnson also urged people to "not make the mistake of thinking Omicron can't hurt you".

The Prime Minister continued: "At this point our scientists cannot say if it is any less severe, and even if that were true a wave of Omicron... could lead to many deaths."

Bookings for booster jabs will open for all adults aged 18 and over on Wednesday.

He added: "The NHS Booking System will be open for these younger age groups from Wednesday, and that’s the best way to guarantee your slot, but in some places you can walk in from tomorrow (Monday)."

The Prime Minister also confirmed there will be 42 military planning teams deployed across every region, additional opening hours so clinics are open second days a week, and additional vaccine sites and mobile units
