Liberal staffer COVID positive, Parliament House on alert

A Canberra-based parliamentary staffer for Liberal MP Angus Taylor has tested positive to COVID, putting Parliament House on alert.

"The staff member is upbeat about spending Christmas Day in isolation," a spokesperson for Mr Taylor said.

"Minister Taylor and members of his Canberra ministerial office have undertaken COVID tests. Minister Taylor has returned a negative result."

An alert issued internally to staff at Parliament House said ACT Health were working to identify possible close contacts and exposure locations at the building and in the ACT.

The alert from the Department of Parliamentary Services said Parliament House would remain open.

The COVID-19 staff member is fully vaccinated, Mr Taylor's spokesperson said.

ACT Health confirmed it was notified about a positive COVID-19 case on Thursday.

"We are working with the presiding officers and Department of Parliamentary Services to respond to this. Contact tracing and relevant risk assessments are ongoing," a spokesperson said.
