Covid address to the nation tonight from Sir Keir Starmer

BBC One will broadcast a pre-recorded address to the nation from Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer at 7pm in response to Boris Johnson’s own remarks on coronavirus booster vaccines, Labour has said.

The leader of the opposition will set out Labour's reaction to the Government's Covid plan.

It comes ahead of a vote in the House of Commons on Tuesday in which a significant number of Conservative MPs are expected not to back Plan B for fighting Covid.

The vote on Tuesday will include bringing new rules into force in England making vaccine passports mandatory in nightclubs and large venues.

Speaking on Sunday, Mr Johnson said: "No-one should be in any doubt: there is a tidal wave of Omicron coming, and I’m afraid it is now clear that two doses of vaccine are simply not enough to give the level of protection we all need."

The Government has been warned that even tougher measures are needed within days to protect the country.
