Covid: 42,583 new cases and 35 deaths in latest daily figures

A further 42,583 new Covid cases have been recorded in the UK along with 35 deaths in the latest daily Covid figures.

It brings the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 10,189,059.

Today’s 35 recorded deaths is a 22 percent decrease on last Monday’s figure of 45 and brings the total number of people recorded to have died within 28 days of a positive test for Covid 19 to 144,810.

It came as authorities today recommended a roll-out of booster doses to all adults amind concerns about the Omicron variant.

Monday’s data shows that 285,335 booster doses were given out on Sunday, slightly higher than last Sunday’s 237,995.

It means in total, nearly 17.9 million Brits have received a booster or third dose ahead of the rollout soon being expanded to the under 40s.

And 29,445 second doses were given out, making a total of 46,341,057 people in Britain who are double-jabbed against Covid.

The latest stats come as more Omicron variant cases were discovered in the UK on Monday, bringing the total to 11 known cases of the new mutated strain.

Two of those were confirmed to be in London, with more expected to be uncovered in coming days.
