Covid-19 vaccines set to be offered to all 38 and 39-year-olds

Everyone aged 38 and 39 will be able to book their Covid-19 vaccinations from Thursday morning, sources say.

The PA news agency says NHS sources have told its reporters that those aged 38 and 39 will be able to secure their jabs from Thursday (May 13) morning, even if they are not in a high risk category due to their job or a health condition.

Currently, everybody over the age of 40 is invited to book their Covid-19 vaccinations. Each person will require two jabs, the second around 11 to 12 weeks after the first. Those who have tested positive for Covid-19 must wait four weeks from the date of their test before booking an appointment.

People aged under 38 can book jabs if they are in a high risk category.

Covid-19 case rates in most areas of the UK have returned to levels last seen around eight months ago, with the number of new cases of coronavirus similar to those recorded in late August and early September.

Some 370 of 380 local areas – 97% – are currently recording rates below 50 cases per 100,000 people, with nearly one in four having rates that have dropped into single figures, according to analysis by PA.
