Covid-19 vaccine Ireland: Public slam 'appallingly bad' booster jab rollout after thousands of people rush to UCD

Members of the public have slammed the "appallingly bad" Covid-19 booster vaccine rollout after thousands of people rushed to UCD for jabs.

The HSE had to ask people to stop queuing at UCD after thousands descended on the walk-in vaccination clinic this morning.

Today is the first day that over-50s can receive a booster vaccine.

Croke Park's vaccination centre also hit its full capacity this morning.

Reports on social media indicated that up to 2,000 people had gathered at the university, with the queue for jabs snaking through the campus.

The HSE had to step in and issue a statement asking people to stop joining the ever-expanding queue.

One woman in her 60s, Martine Brangan - who was in the queue at 8am this morning - told Dublin Live she decided to leave the queue when she heard people were being turned away.

She also slammed the booster campaign as "appallingly bad".

She said: "I turned away myself from the queue as soon as I heard from another member of the public who had been turned from the door that they were not accepting anybody who had their last vaccine any more recently than July 12.

"The information campaign has been appallingly bad.

"Everybody I spoke with in the queue received same text as myself, urging all the over 50s to show up at a vaccine centre as soon as possible."

A number of other people took to Twitter to issue similar complaints.

One said: "My husband was in the queue for UCD walk in vaccination centre this morning. He got done early, but said the queue waiting is a mile long, with 3 people administering the vaccines. They are only supposed to be open 8-11am."

Another wrote: "UCD totally over subscribed. Turned away 1,000 people this morning at 8.40am that had been waiting since early."

And a third said: "I think the volume of no shows for booster vaccines was greatly overestimated this morning. At least a 1km queue."
