COVID-19 vaccinations among measures for NSW travellers set to be unveiled by WA government

Roger Cook suggests there will be a package of measures to stop the virus coming from NSW.  (ABC News: Keane Bourke)

WA Health Minister Roger Cook has flagged COVID-19 vaccination requirements will form part of new measures to further tighten the state's hard border with New South Wales.

WA's Chief Health Officer and Police Commissioner have been giving advice to the state government on what more can be done to ensure travellers returning to WA from NSW do not bring COVID-19 with them.

WA currently has a closed border with NSW and West Australians can only come home under "exceptional circumstances".

Premier Mark McGowan, who has been sharply critical of the NSW government's handling of the state's coronavirus outbreak, has also flagged tougher restrictions.

Mr Cook suggested there would be a package of measures to help stop the virus.

"Isolation is important, testing and tracing and quarantining will play a role as well," he told the ABC.

The government is expected to announce the new measures as early as today.

WA's hard border rules with NSW were tightened last month when stricter eligibility requirements for exempt travellers were announced.

Following health advice from Chief Health Officer Andrew Robertson, the state revealed it would limit entry for people trying to enter WA on compassionate grounds.

Under the previous hard border conditions, exempt travellers were allowed to enter WA from NSW, including people on compassionate grounds.

Three more Sydney areas were hit with tighter lockdown restrictions yesterday after NSW recorded 345 new COVID cases and two more deaths, including a fully vaccinated man in his 90s
