COVID-19 update: Confirmed Hunter cases rise to 208

AN additional 8 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed since yesterday, bringing the total number in Hunter New England to 208.

There are now 12 COVID-19 patients being cared for in Hunter hospitals.

Seven are in ICU.

Of the 208 cases, 33 have recovered to date.

Hunter New England Health is contacting close contacts of the new cases, who are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days from last contact.

Across NSW, an additional 114 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed since Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 2032.

Most cases were acquired internationally, but at least 250 confirmed cases were locally acquired with the source of infection unknown.

People aged 20-to-29 account for the highest number of confirmed cases (432), followed by those aged between 60-to-69 (323) and 50-to-59 (323). Those aged between 30-to-39 also have a high number of confirmed cases (319).

There are 164 COVID-19 cases being treated in NSW, including 35 cases in intensive care.

Of those, 16 cases require ventilators at this stage. More than 50 per cent of the remainder of cases being treated by NSW Health are through Hospital in the Home services.

There are 211 NSW cases from the Ruby Princess, 79 cases from the Ovation of the Seas, and 30 cases from the Voyager of the Seas.

There are now seven confirmed cases from a group of 100 Chilean Navy personnel self-isolating in hotels in Sydney. NSW Health said investigations and contact tracing continued.
