Covid-19: Test positivity rate climbs to 16.15% in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state witnessed 21,116 positive cases of the 1,30,768 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate (TPR) has increased to 16.15%. Meanwhile, 197 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 19,247. At the same time, 19,296 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among new cases, 19,954 cases have been infected through local transmission. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 945.

Thrissur reported the highest number of cases with 2,873, followed by Malappuram (2,824), Ernakulam (2,527) and Kozhikode (2,401). .

So far, 35,67,492 people have recovered from the infection, even as 1,79,303 patients are still undergoing treatment. There are a total of 4,99,903 persons presently under observation in various districts, of which 4,72,523 are in home or institutional quarantine centres, and 27,380 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio, 414 wards in the 74 local bodies are having WIPR more than 8%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions are implemented.
