Covid-19 Scotland latest: 844 new cases as death toll rises by seven in 24 hours

Seven more people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

There are 844 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in today's daily statistics, bringing the total to 19,664 in Scotland. 309 are in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area and 181 are in Lanarkshire.

There were 1170 people in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed coronavirus. 95 people were in intensive care, which is five fewer than yesterday.

It comes after Health Secretary Jeane Freeman said there are "no plans" to make a Covid-19 vaccine compulsory in Scotland.

The Scottish Government has outlined its distribution plan for an inoculation to the virus, with hopes it could be available in the first week of December.

However, Ms Freeman told the BBC there would be a public information campaign put in place to dispel any concerns held about the vaccine rather than making them mandatory.

She said: "We've no plans on making the vaccine compulsory.

"What we have to do is hear what concerns people have about why they would be reluctant to take the vaccine.

"In Scotland we have a very good record of high uptake of vaccines and we've a strong track record of delivering them safely and effectively."
