Covid-19 school outbreaks in Dublin area treble in a week

Covid-19 school outbreaks in the Dublin area have trebled in a week, wth the majority occurring in primary schools.

There were 21 Covid-19 outbreaks in schools in the HSE East area of Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow last week, with two in secondary schools and 19 in primary schools.

This is treble the number of outbreaks from the week before, with seven occurring in the HSE East area in the week up to the 11th of September.

Last week In the Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare area there was seven Covid outbreaks in workplaces and three in a sports activity or fitness setting.

Just one outbreak was caused in a private household setting while four were associated with a retail outlet.

In total, there were 198 Covid outbreaks in Ireland that were reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre from September 11th to September 18th.

There were 90 new outbreaks reported in schools nationwide with 412 confirmed linked cases, 78 in primary schools, 11 in post-primary schools and one in a special education school.
