Covid-19 rules and what's new at Fenwick as Newcastle store prepares to reopen

Fenwick in Newcastle is set to welcome shoppers back to the department store for the first time since January with new brands, concessions and food hall traders.

The Northumberland Street department store will reopen from 9am on Monday April 12, the first day non-essential retailers are allowed to welcome back customers into stores.

Kieran McBride, Store Director at Fenwick Newcastle, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the people of the North East back to Fenwick safely on Monday 12 April.

"Our absolute priority remains the safety of colleagues, customers and our communities, and we are urge everyone to continue to follow the guidelines and shop safely. We’ve been working hard to make the store look it’s best for reopening and will do so with a host of new experiences, new brand launches & services, and pop-ups from local businesses, producers and artisans hosted in our Food Hall.”

Sole Trader trainers, LRM handbag personalisation and Nail It nail bar will be among the new additions in store, while the pop-up food market will be selling goods and produce from the likes of Dabbawal, Dot Bagel and Khai Khai.

Takeaway food and coffee will be available to buy from the food hall, while beauty and treatment services will reopen too, including Aveda, Caudalie, Charlottle Tilbury and La Prairie

A new bottle shop, Hop & Dram, will also open. It specialises in beer and spirits from breweries and distilleries in the North East.

Fenwick will open with extended opening hours while customers who spend £50 can park for free until May 31.

Fenwick reopening safety measures

Fenwick says:

  • Customer hosts will be there to welcome customers at the entrance of every store and to assist throughout the store.
  • The number of people in the store at any time will be carefully managed.
  • Each door has been designated as either an entry or an exit and some doors will be closed completely.
  • A one-way system is clearly marked out on the floor, but customers will be able to ‘step off’ the path to browse.
  • Social distancing rules are to be strictly adhered to throughout the store. To that end, on its beauty counters, customers should ask one of Fenwick assistants who will be happy to help with requests, while maintaining an appropriate distance.
  • Face coverings are mandatory in store for all customers and colleagues. Where a colleague is not wearing a mask, it is due to them being medically exempt from doing so.
  • Cafes and restaurants will remain closed for the moment in line with government advice, except for takeaway items.
  • Hand sanitiser will be easily accessible to all throughout the store and located at every till point.
  • All sales advisors are provided with clear visors and there will be clear screens in place to protect customers and colleagues.
  • Contactless or card payments preferred. All payment pads will be regularly and frequently cleaned.
