Covid-19 rate in West Dunbartonshire is five times national average

The rate of Covid-19 infections in West Dunbartonshire is five times the Scottish average.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde confirmed the rate in a post on social media and urged residents to play their part in reducing it.

It read: "The Covid rate in West Dunbartonshire (per 100 thousand people) is five times the Scottish average.

"We can all play our part in getting this figure down - following the rules on numbers of people gathering, washing hands & social distancing

"Pls tell your friends."

This week, the Lennox Herald reported that West Dunbartonshire is at risk of becoming one of the worst hit regions in the UK by Covid-19.

Last week it was revealed that it has the highest prevalence in Scotland for the virus but an interactive map created at Imperial College London (ICL) predicts that incidences are set to rise here even further this month.

According to the ICL data, West Dunbartonshire has a 97 percent of being a UK Covid hotspot by the end of this week, increasing to 98 percent by the end of next week.

In comparison, neighbouring Argyll and Bute has just a one percent chance of becoming a hotspot this week with the figures for East Dunbartonshire 33 percent.
