Health authorities have confirmed a person who tested positive to COVID-19 is a patient in the Bundaberg Hospital.

Queensland's Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the person, who is connected to the Byron Bay hens' party cluster, was being treated in the Bundaberg Hospital, which handled several COVID cases during the first Australia-wide lockdown.

"We do have an individual admitted to the Toowoomba Hospital and another to the Bundaberg Hospital," she said.

"Both of these hospitals have managed COVID-positive cases before and they are managing those two."

Dr Young also said she was not concerned about community transmission as the person had not been active in the Wide Bay region.

Testing clinics across the Wide Bay Burnett have been inundated after a person who tested positive to the virus travelled to Gladstone from Brisbane, stopping in Gin Gin and Miriam Vale on the way.

After the locations visited were deemed "casual contact" sites, Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service extended testing hours to cater for demand, and opened a clinic in Gin Gin.

Dr Young encouraged the community to get tested and follow health authority guidelines.

'Anywhere that had a mask was ransacked'

Residents of the Wide Bay Burnett are being asked to wear a mask and,  for the first time since the pandemic began, must carry one with them at all times when they leave home unless they have a lawful reason not to.

Local businesses that stock masks say they are struggling to keep up with demand, as stock is selling as soon as new supplies of masks come in.

Tim Spargo, owner of the IWC Pharmacy in Bundaberg, has been stunned by the huge demand for masks from the community.

"Anywhere that had a mask was ransacked.

"The minute the announcement was made about Queensland going into lockdown for three days, all our wholesalers sold out, so we got some, but not many. "

And it's not just the pharmacies that have been slammed by mask demand.

Sue Hargreaves runs a boutique fashion business in Bundaberg and has been selling masks as quickly as they could be made, with customers even looking for masks to match their outfits.

"I'd sold out by lunchtime and then the woman that makes them brought more in that afternoon and they had all sold out by 9.30 this morning.

"One lady came in and said, 'This is my 16th mask from you because I love all the funky patterns,' so she's got them to go with her outfits."
