Covid-19 outbreak confirmed at Irish primary school as urgent letter sent to parents

Multiple Covid-19 cases have been confirmed at an Irish primary school.

The outbreak was confirmed by the HSE in a letter sent to parents on Tuesday.

Health officials said that a "number" of infections had been identified at the school in east Cork.

All close contacts of the confirmed cases have been informed and warned to self-isolate.

And the HSE said that it was currently monitoring the situation "closely".

However the school remains open, and any children who were not close contacts and are not symptomatic can continue to attend as normal.

The notice sent to parents and guardians reads: "A number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in your child's school have been notified to the Department of Public Health HSE-South.

"A public health risk assessment has been undertaken. Anyone identified as a close contact of the confirmed cases is being contacted and advised accordingly.

"If your child has not been identified as a close contact at this time, he/she does not need a test for Covid-19, can continue to attend school and no further actions are currently required.

"If your child develops any symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 infection (such as a cough, a fever, loss or change in sense of taste or smell)

  • He/she should then stay at home, self isolate and
  • You should contact your GP for further advice

"The Department of Public Health HSE-South is monitoring the school situation closely."
