Covid-19 Northern Ireland: one further death and 79 new cases

There has been one further death as a result of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours according to the Department of Health.

The daily dashboard says that there has been an increase of 79 new positive tests in the past 24 hours, and 563 in the past week.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, 8,502 people have been infected with the virus.

The Belfast area has seen the largest increase in new cases in the past seven days, with 149, followed by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon with 89 and Antrim and Newtownabbey with 71.

In the past 14 days, 373 people have tested positive for the virus in the Belfast area.

There largest increase in new cases in the past week has been among those aged 20 to 39, with 226, followed by people aged 40 to 59, with 135. There have been 114 new infections among those aged 19 or under.

Following the most recent death in the past 24 hours, there have been 571 people who have passed away as a result of Covid-19.

There are currently 23 inpatients in hospital infected with the virus, three are in intensive care and two are on ventilators.

In residential and care homes, there are 27 confirmed Covid-19 outbreaks and nine suspected ones.

To date, 289,561 people have been tested for the Covid-19.
