Covid-19 Northern Ireland: No deaths as 69 positive cases recorded

There have been 69 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours according to the Department of Health.

The department says that there has also been no further deaths with the death toll in Northern Ireland remaining at 2,154.

The vaccine rollout also is continuing its momentum with 1, 790, 718 doses being administered so far.

It comes as a small number of the Indian variant have been identified in Kilkeel, Co Down.

The PHA said the results were suggestive of the variant, also known as Delta, but it has not yet been confirmed and that the precautionary testing is in advance of confirmation of whether the variant is present and to reduce the risk of spread in the community.

The Northern Ireland Executive is due to meet on Thursday where it will review the current restrictions with the possibility of relaxing them in the coming weeks.

Communities minister Deirdre Hargey said ministers were looking at allowing for the return of live music on June 21, in pubs, clubs and music venues.

She also said there is a chance that the restrictions on the number of people allowed at outdoor events could be relaxed.
