Covid-19 Northern Ireland: More than 1,000 new cases in the past week

There have been two further deaths due to Covid-19 in the past 72 hours according to the Department of Health.

The department's daily dashboard says that there has been 125 new positive cases in the past 24 hours, with 1,014 new infections in the past seven days.

9,466 people have tested positive for Covid-19 since the outbreak began.

There have been two further deaths since September 18, bringing the death toll in Northern Ireland from Covid-19 to 577.

The Belfast area has seen the largest increase in infections in the past seven days, with 264, followed by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, where there has been 155.

There have been 139 new positive tests in the Newry Mourne and Down area in the past seven days and 121 in Derry City and Strabane.

Those aged 20 to 39 have seen the largest increase in positive tests with 386, followed by those aged 40 to 59 with 260 and 0 to 19 with 234.

There are currently 33 inpatients in hospital infected with the virus and five patients are in intensive care and three are on ventilators.

There are 30 confirmed Covid-19 outbreaks in care or residential homes and 12 suspected ones.

To date, 315,560 individuals have been tested for Covid-19
