Covid-19 Northern Ireland death toll surpasses 1,000, according to DoH figures

More than 1,000 people have now died from Covid-19 according to the Department of Health.

The department's daily dashboard says there have been 15 further deaths recorded, with 7 of these taking place in the previous 24 hours.

The Northern Irish death toll from the virus now stands at 1,011.

There have been 391 new positive tests in the past day, with 2,523 people contracting Covid-19 in the past week.

Mid and East Antrim has seen the largest increase in infections over the last 24 hours, with 71, followed by Derry City and Strabane with 57 and Mid Ulster with 40.

Belfast has seen the largest increase in infections in the past seven days with 357, followed by Derry City and Strabane with 10.

There are currently 419 inpatients in hospital with Covid-19, with 408 patients being admitted in the past fortnight. During that time 542 patients were discharged.

There are 38 patients in intensive care with the coronavirus and 29 are using ventilators.

To date, 52,856 people have tested positive for the virus and 576,325 have been tested for it.
