Covid-19 Northern Ireland: 5 further deaths in the past 24 hours

There have been five further Covid-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the Department of Health.

The department's daily dashboard says that the coronavirus death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,129.

A further 419 individuals have tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, with 3,273 contracting the virus in the past week.

In total, 58,635 people have contracted Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

Mid and East Antrim has seen the largest number of new infections in the past week with 434, followed by Belfast with 380.

There are currently 429 inpatients in hospital infected with the virus, with 399 being admitted in the past 14 days. In the same period 486 have been discharged.

In Northern Ireland intensive care units, there are 31 patients with Covid-19 and 24 of these are using ventilators.

Hospitals are running at 98 per cent bed capacity and there are 44 unoccupied beds across the country.

There are currently 113 active coronavirus outbreaks in care and residential homes.

To date, 612,509 individuals have been tested for the virus.
