Covid-19 Northern Ireland: 48 new positive cases as hospital admissions increase

There have been 48 new positive cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours and a rise in hospital admissions according to the Department of Health.

Its daily dashboard has said that there have been no further deaths, with 557 people having passed away due to the coronavirus.

194 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the past seven days.

Nine more people have been admitted to hospital with the virus and two people are currently in intensive care. 1,537 people have been admitted to hospital with Covid-19 and 1,512 have been discharged.

Belfast has seen an increase in cases in the past week with 48 positive tests.

This is followed by Antrim and Newtonabbey with 32 and Mid and East Antrim with 31.

The Newry, Mourne and Down region has seen the most new cases in the past 14 days, with 59, with Belfast having 57.

6,188 people have tested positive for Covid-19 so far.

Belfast has had the most cases of the virus, with 1,479, followed by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon with 770.

The Fermanagh and Omagh area has had the lowest number of cases with 182.

The Department of Health dashboard says that there are two confirmed Covid-19 outbreaks in care homes and eight suspected ones.

To date, 161,201 individuals have been tested for the virus in Northern Ireland.
