THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state reported 15,876 positive cases with a test positivity rate of 15.12% when results of 1,05,005 samples arrived on Tuesday.
As many as 129 recent deaths have also been confirmed as caused by Covid, taking the related death toll in the state to 22,779. At the same time, 25,654 patients have recovered from the disease.
Among the new cases, 14,959 cases have been infected through local spread. The contact source of infection remains untraceable for 778. There are 95 healthcare professionals among those infected while 44 of the infected have arrived from outside the state.
Thrissur reported the highest number of cases — 1,936, followed by Ernakulam (1,893), Thiruvananthapuram (1,627), Palakkad (1,591), Malappuram (1,523), Kollam (1,373), Alappuzha (1,118), Kozhikode (1,117), Kannur (1,099), Kottayam (1,043), Pathanamthitta (632) Idukki (367), Wayanad (296), and Kasaragod (261).
The total active cases at present are 1,98,865, of which 13.7% people are admitted either in the hospitals or in the other treatment centres.
A total of 5,75,668 people are presently under observation across the state, of which 5,46,791 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 28,877 are in isolation at hospitals. As per the weekly infection population ratio, different wards in 794 local bodies are having WIPR more than 7%. Among this, 692 wards are in the urban area and 3,416 in the rural area. In these wards strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.
