Karnataka reports 12 new cases of Omicron

Karnataka on Thursday reported 12 new cases of Omicron, taking the State’s tally to 31. Seven of the new cases are female patients, including two girls aged nine and 11 years old.

Health and Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar, who tweeted about the new cases, said while 10 are from Bengaluru, one each has been reported from Mangaluru and Mysuru.

According to health department officials, a 20-year-old woman, a 56-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman, a 31-year-old man, a 42-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man, a 49-year-old woman, an 11-year-old girl and a 59-year-old woman have contracted the Omicron variant in Bengaluru.

Among the Bengaluru cases, five had a travel history to the United Kingdom, one had returned from Denmark, and another person had returned from Nigeria. The three others from Bengaluru did not have a travel history and their contact with an international traveller is being ascertained.

From Mangaluru, a 27-year-old man, who had returned from Ghana tested positive for Omicron, while in Mysuru a 9-year-old girl, who had returned from Switzerland, tested positive for the new variant.

All the patients have been isolated and are undergoing treatment. Among the new cases, except five all are fully vaccinated. While two of the new cases have taken booster shots too, three have taken only one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination status of two patients is not available.

New cases

Meanwhile, Karnataka on Thursday reported 299 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total to 30,03,564. Bengaluru Urban reported 210 cases and one death.

The State’s toll rose to 38,301 on Thursday. This is apart from 29 deaths of patients due to non-COVID-19 reasons.

As many as 318 persons were discharged on Thursday, taking the total recoveries to 29,58,117. The State now has 7,117 active patients.

While the positivity rate for the day touched 0.23%, the Case Fatality Rate touched 0.66%. As many as 1,27,098 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, including 1,05,021 RT-PCR tests. With this, the total number of tests rose to 5,57,12,145.
