Covid-19 Ireland: What Level Five would mean for those hoping to do Christmas shopping early

With Cabinet set to meet next week to discuss the current coronavirus situation there are fears across the country that new restrictions loom.

While it is unclear what approach the government will take after NPHET recommended a move to Level 5 lockdown it is likely further restrictions will be implemented.

Currently Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal all have Level 4 restrictions in place.

However Tanaiste Leo Varadkar earlier warned that it is likely other counties could also be moved to Level 4.

Level 4 and Level 5 restrictions are both some of the harshest the country can face similar to those that were implemented back in March.

And most retailers will be among those forced to shut their if the strict guidelines are implemented.

Naturally this will cause some concern for people hoping to get their Christmas shopping started early.

And with no indication as to how long restrictions it's likely December shopping could also be affected.

Under Level 4 and Level 5 restrictions essential retail only will be allowed to open. All other retail and personal services closed.

This will include high street stores, clothing shops, shoe stores, tech shops and toy stores among many others.

Thankfully most retailers offer online shopping services which allow you to browse their catalogues and purchase them all from the comfort of your home.

And sites like Amazon give shoppers the ability to buy an endless range of products from a host of retailers.

Most will also offer delivery and collection services.

Under Level 4 restrictions travel is limited to within your county so under the rules retailers are permitted to operate 'Click and collect' services with the correct precautions in place.

However Level 5 restrictions would see the 5km travel limit implemented meaning picking up purchases may not be possible.

But most retailers will offer a delivery service which will drop your items right to your door.
