COVID-19 Ireland updates as over 2,000 cases reported

A total of 2,074 cases of COVID-19 were announced in Ireland today.

Some 229 people are hospitalised due to the virus with 43 in ICU.

HSE chief Paul Reid praised young people as first vaccines were administered to the 12–15 age group.

He said on Twitter: "Yesterday I witnessed many parents & their children from 12 to 15 attending a vaccination centre in Carrick on Shannon.

“Children have sacrificed so much in this pandemic too & they have shown maturity beyond their years.

“Vaccinations are our way out of this awful period.”
