Covid-19 Ireland update: 4,407 new cases reported with 114 in ICU

The Department of Health has been notified of 4,407 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

As of 8am today, 614 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 114 are in ICU.

It comes amid news that pubs, nightclubs and restaurants will have a new closing time and will shut their doors at midnight from Thursday, under plans agreed by Cabinet.

The shock move sees the Government reintroducing a closing curfew less than four weeks after it lifted an 11.30pm closing order on pubs and nightclubs.

Micheal Martin is due to address the country this evening following a surge in Covid-19 cases in Ireland over the past month.

The Taoiseach will address the public at 6pm this evening to announce how the government will proceed as they attempt to curb the rate of infection.

The Cabinet discussed the further introduction of restrictions on Thursday morning, following on from the five-hour meeting that was held on Monday night.

The government also agreed that Covid passes will now be required to gain access to cinemas and theatres but won't be needed for gyms and hairdressers.
