Covid-19 Ireland: The six areas most likely to leave lockdown as cases plummet

Six areas are in the best position to leave lockdown as they successfully manage to suppress the virus.

One of the key statistics used by health officials to determine the size of an outbreak in a region is the incidence rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population.

And Cavan remains the hardest-hit region in the country by this metric with an incidence of 364.9, followed by Meath on 323.0.

Donegal was once the epicentre of the outbreak here but has seen a reduction in the number of new cases, dipping to a rate of 286.4.

However six counties look to be best placed to leave lockdown on schedule on December 1 as the rate remains very low.

Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford, Offaly, Wicklow and Leitrim are all reporting an incidence of under 150. This is well below the national average, which currently stands at 212.7.
