Covid-19 Ireland: Panic as several Dublin nursing home residents and staff battling coronavirus cluster

A north Dublin nursing home has confirmed that a number of residents and staff have tested positive for Covid-19 and are battling the cruel disease.

The facility has alerted the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) and informed family members about the worrying news.

A spokeswoman for the nursing home said that those who have been infected are currently self-isolating.

She added that updates will be issued on a regular basis to HIQA and the families, thanking the HSE for their assistance on the matter also.

The news comes as Ireland's top professor issued a stark warning that the country could see thousands of cases a day by Halloween.

Professor Philip Nolan said that the number of daily cases could be between 1,800 to 2,500 cases as there has been a massive jump in cases over the last few weeks.

He said at the NPHET briefing yesterday evening: "The reproduction number appears to have increased and is now at 1.4 nationally.

"Modelling shows that if current trends continue, by October 31, the number of cases notified daily would be in the range of 1,800 – 2,500 cases with over 400 people in hospital.”

A total of 1,205 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Ireland in the last 24 hours bringing the overall number of infections to 46,429.
