Covid-19 Ireland: Over 11,000 new cases confirmed with 68 in ICU

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 5,677 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In addition, 5,578 people registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal to give a total of 11, 245 new cases reported.

There has been a total of 6,291 deaths related to COVID-19 notified in Ireland.

This includes 63 deaths newly notified in the past week (since last Wednesday).

As of 8am today, 627 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of whom 68 are in ICU.

Last week, the department made the decision to report Covid-19 case numbers from Monday to Friday only.

However, daily hospital and ICU information will continue to be updated on the Covid-19 Data Hub as usual on Saturdays and Sundays.

On Monday, the Department were notified of 28,166 positive Covid cases from over the entire weekend.

This comes as parents worry that they may have to pay for Covid-19 tests for teenagers ahead of family holidays.

The booster programme for the 12-15 year old cohort has not yet been rolled out, with many teens' EU digitial Covid certs expiring before the summer season.
