Covid-19 Ireland: Health officials release new list of ten towns with most coronavirus cases

Health officials have released a new list of the towns in Ireland with the highest rate of coronavirus.

The statistics were shared by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre and cover the period up to October 5.

One of the most important measures used by experts is the 14-day incidence rate of confirmed coronavirus cases per 100,000 population.

By this metric, the Donegal region of Lifford-Stranorlar remains the hardest-hit area in the country, with a staggering rate of 602.6.

Dublin, which has been the epicentre of the virus outbreak so far here, only has one region on the list.

Donegal dominates the top ten, but Monaghan, Longford and Clare also have towns that have seen a spike in cases over the last two weeks.

Here are the top ten towns with the highest incidence rate:

1. Lifford-Stranorlar - 602.6

3. Cardonagh - 347.8

4. Letterkenny - 332.3

5. Monaghan - 317.3

6. Kimmage-Rathmines - 306.1

7. Kilrush - 290.6

8. Boyle - 242.8

9. Buncrana - 241.4
