Updated Digital Covid Certs are arriving in peoples email accounts starting this afternoon, Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly has confirmed.
The process of these new Digital Covid Certificates arriving will take a number of days so those who've received a booster are advised to check their email.
Why are these newly updated certs required?
Due to an EU Commission ruling, the lifespan of the current EU Digital Covid Certs would only be valid for nine months after completing the primary two-dose course.
"The new rules will ensure restrictions are based on the best available scientific evidence as well as objective criteria", the Commission said in December.
"Continued coordination is essential for the functioning of the single market and it will provide clarity for EU citizens in the exercise of their right to free movement."
Speaking about the updated Digital Covid Certs, Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly said: "I am very pleased to announce that having worked with partners across Government, EU Digital COVID Certificates will be updated to reflect additional vaccine doses.
"Those who have received an additional dose can expect to start to receive their updated certificate over the coming week."
If you haven't received your updated cert, one week after the process has started (next Thursday), a person can use the online self-service portal at gov.ie/dcc.
Needing an updated Digital Covid Cert for other activities such as indoor dining is not being planned by the Government.
