Covid-19 Ireland: Dr Tony Holohan shares vital message as worrying trend emerges

Dr Tony Holohan has shared a vital message on the importance of self-isolating after a worrying trend emerged.

The Chief Medical Officer said there have been "too many stories" of people failing to self-isolate or restrict their movements.

He wrote on Twitter: "We need to have cases and contacts acting fully in accordance with advice.

"There are too many stories of people with symptoms/waiting on tests and not self-isolating, also contacts not restricting movements.

"Spread the word and make sure we all know what to do if we have contracted Covid-19 OR
if we have symptoms of Covid-19 OR if we are awaiting a test result.

"Spread the word and make sure we all know what to do if we are a close contact of a confirmed case of Covid-19. Spread the message, not the virus."

In a new YouTube video, the CMO shared a list of five things you must do when self-isolating:

1. Avoid contact with other people, especially older people and anybody who has a long-term health condition.

2. Stay apart from other people in your household.

3. Clean your room every day with disinfectant.

4. Do not go to work, school, religious services or public areas.

5. Do not have visitors in your home.

Dr Holohan added that people can stop self-isolating 10 days after the onset of symptoms and if they've had no fever for ten days.
