Covid-19 Ireland: county-by-county report card as seven areas struggle to wrestle down case numbers

Ireland is still in the midst of its third wave and case numbers around the country are still surging.

HSE chief Paul Reid today announced that there were 898 people in hospital with Covid-19.

There are also currently 69 patients in ICU with the virus.

Yesterday, there were 921 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and a further 23 deaths reported by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).

And the national incidence rate per 100,000 people over the last 14 days currently stands at 319 (as of February 8).

The incidence rate per 100,000 is the most effective way of comparing how badly different parts of the country are affected by Covid-19.

Currently, there are seven counties – Dublin, Monaghan, Carlow, Waterford, Louth, Wexford and Offaly – with an incidence rate above the national 14-day average.

With that in mind, here's a county-by-county breakdown of the incidence rates in the Republic of Ireland.
