Covid-19 Ireland cases today update as 304 new infections confirmed with 47 in hospital

A total of 304 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Ireland, while 47 patients are currently being treated in hospital.

Of these patients, 13 are in ICU.

The latest figures were confirmed by the Department of Health this evening.

Despite the growing concern about the Delta variant, Eamon Ryan is 'confident' that international travel can resume as planned next month.

After the UK announced that they'll be delaying a full reopening by one month, similar fears have been raised about Ireland with publicans and restauranteurs voicing their concern.

However, the Transport Minister is optimistic that July 19th will see a return of international travel, in line with the EU Digital Green Certificate.

Mr Ryan said: “From July 19, the vast majority of people who are vaccinated coming in or going out will be able to travel unimpeded.

“Clearly, we’ll listen to Nphet next week but I think their advice next week will be more likely in relation to the fifth of July, the next stage [of Ireland’s reopening].”

“Everyone is mad to travel to visit friends and family for work, for holidays, for a whole range of different reasons. We want to see that back but we want to see it in a way where we’re not stop-start, that we get the public health aspect right.”

Speaking on Newstalk, the Green Party leader added: "As we're going at the moment, we're on track, we don't expect to have to change that. We will obviously continue to listen to health advice but it is working, what we're doing."
