Covid-19 Ireland cases today: Further 522 cases announced and 9 deaths confirmed

A further 522 coronavirus cases have been confirmed this evening.

Meanwhile sadly another 9 Covid-19 related deaths have been confirmed.

4 deaths occurred in March, 3 occurred in February and 1 in January

The figures were announced by the National Public Health Emergency Team this afternoon.

Meanwhile Ireland's vaccine rollout continues to be plagued by issues after missing its target last week.

The Government and HSE has been subject to much criticism for the slow pace of the distribution of vaccines here.

The Government has set a target of 84,166 Covid vaccines to be administered next week.

Dr Henry said that the "vast majority" of over-85s will be vaccinated with a first dose this week, but between 600 and 800 of this cohort will not be completed until next week.

The recent shortfall in reaching vaccination targets has been repeatedly blamed on supply issues particularly in relation to deliveries of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Dr Henry said AstraZeneca had informed the HSE of a shortfall in the order of 75,000 doses, across two weeks, but he was "hopeful" they would be able to catch up regarding any shortage by the end of March.
