Covid-19 Ireland: Cabinet 'agrees to Dublin lockdown' as indoor dining expected to be banned

Dublin will face a "local lockdown" as indoor dining will be banned in pubs and restaurants, it has been reported.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin is due to make an announcement from Government Buildings this evening.

He will be joined by Tanaiste Leo Varadkar, Green Party leader Eamon Ryan, and the Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn.

And RTE News reports that the capital will officially enter Level Three of the Government's new roadmap, with restrictions starting at midnight tonight.

This will see tighter restrictions on household gatherings and indoor dining at pubs, with the new measures set to be in force for three weeks.

Dublin has seen a large spike in coronavirus cases over the last number of days and weeks, and health officials have called for tougher measures to be put in place.

The National Public Health Emergency Team last night recommended a number of measures including the closure of all pubs and restaurants in the capital.

Dublin remains the hardest-hit area in the country, with a 14-day confirmed cases incidence rate per 100,000 population of 114.2.

The Dublin North West region has hit an incidence of a staggering 173.4, while Dublin South East stands at 135.8.

Three other districts in the capital are currently reporting a 14-day incidence rate over 100. They are Dublin South West, Dublin West, and Dublin North Central.
