The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 19,852 cases of Covid-19 in Ireland from across the weekend.
These cases include positive PCR tests and positive antigen results uploaded to the HSE portal.
As of 8am today, 808 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of whom 47 are in ICU.
2,383 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19 were confirmed today, with 4,760 people registering a positive antigen tests yesterday.
On Saturday, the HPSC was notified of 3,904 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 4,014 people registering a positive antigen test through the HSE portal the previous day.
On Sunday March 6, the HPSC was notified of 1,254 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19. 3,537 people registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal the previous day.
Meanwhile, the remaining Covid-19 requirements for international travellers arriving into Ireland ended yesterday.
Those arriving into the country no longer need to show proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative PCR test upon arrival.
The requirement to fill out a Covid-19 Passenger Locator Form is also scrapped.
The Department of Health said: "The current epidemiological situation in Ireland continues to be broadly positive.
"With both high levels of vaccine uptake and information on the Omicron variant becoming increasingly available internationally, changes in the management of Covid-19 in Ireland are possible.
"Covid-19 restrictions across Europe are evolving, with a number of EU countries already reviewing requirements for travellers."
