Covid-19 Ireland: 10,414 confirmed cases of the virus reported

The Department of Health has reported a total of 10,414 cases of Covid-19 which were confirmed by PCR test and registered positive antigen tests.

Of the total cases reported, 4,809 were from people registering a positive antigen test through the HSE portal.

There has been a total of 6,136 deaths related to Covid-19 notified in Ireland. This includes 49 deaths newly notified in the past week (since last Wednesday).

As of 8am today, 739 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 74 are in ICU.

It follows he Government easing virtually all Covid-19 restrictions on Saturday morning after the numbers made it clear that the Omicron wave had reached its peak.

The easing of restrictions is expected to cause another surge of cases but the nation's built-up immunity through vaccination and infection is said to be enough to counter it.
