There have been 1,789 new cases of the coronavirus recorded in Ireland in the last 24 hours.
As of 8am on Wednesday morning, 360 people are in hospital with the deadly illness, with 56 of them receiving treatment in intensive care units.
There has been a total of 5,112 deaths related to Covid-19 notified in Ireland.
The numbers come just hours after Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the Government will not rule out local restrictions for counties who are struggling with Covid-19 cases.
Mr Martin referenced the incidence of the disease is high in border counties Donegal and Monaghan and said vaccine uptake hasn’t been as strong in both counties.
He said right now, the Government “not at this particular point” are considering imposing restrictions again.
But he said “we rule nothing out” and “it is possible to regulate for that but in the current climate we don’t anticipate doing that".
He said the State is trying initiatives in both counties to encourage uptake of the vaccines.
The Taoiseach also said people who continue to be affected by Covid restrictions will continue to get financial support until the measures all are lifted in October.
He said the Government is winding down the PUP but said “there will be a specific approach taken to some sectors particularly in the arts and live entertainment sector..who still can’t go back to work.”
He said Government will “delay” the progression to jobseekers allowance "towards the end of the month" in respect of the arts sector.
