Covid-19 infections plummet in West Lothian as Nicola Sturgeon has news on Freedom Day

Coronavirus infections continue to fall in West Lothian as Nicola Sturgeon considers ending lockdown.

The latest Public Health Scotland data shows that Covid-19 infections continue to fall in West Lothian, with 32 new infections as of July 27.

Across the week between July 18 to 24 there were another 366 new infections across the week.

Meanwhile Nicola Sturgeon was speaking today and said she would have an announcement next week on whether lockdown restrictions will end on August 9.

She said: “What we will be doing between then is looking at different factors to inform that decision. Several of these factors give us really strong grounds for hope and that is positive.”

The First Minister continued by reiterating her faith in the vaccination programme and said the figures for uptakes have been “quite extraordinary.”

She is asking for one final push to get “close to 100% of the eligible population vaccinated as we can get.”

Ms Sturgeon announced that over four million Scots have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Since the programme got under way in December last year a total of 4,000,063 people have been jabbed at least once.

And another 16,826 people received their second dose yesterday, which means 3,108,928 Scots have been given their last jab.

There have been 91.4 per cent of people vaccinated with the first dose in West Lothian, and 71.6 per cent have had the second.
