COVID-19 Infections Continue to Spike in Lebanon

Director of Lebanon’s Rafik Hariri University Hospital Dr. Firass Abiad said Saturday that despite the ongoing surge in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths, admission to ICUs is declining, in part due to the vaccination of people over 75 years of age.

The Health Ministry said Saturday that the country has received 46,800 new doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Lebanon has so far received 297,180 doses from the company.

Abiad warned that easing the restrictions will likely cause an increase in cases among the youth, as schools reopen and social and economic activities resume.

He added that although youths are less likely to catch the virus, a new study has shown that long-term complications are highly probable.

Lebanon entered a three-day lockdown on Saturday over the Easter holiday.
