Mr Leitch told BBC Radio Scotland it was still “too early to say” what the prospects for Christmas were.

But he added: “I’m worried firstly about Hallowe’en and November 5 and then we may turn our minds to Christmas.”

He said Christmas was “not going to be normal,” adding: “We’re not going to be in large family groupings with multiple families coming round - that’s fiction for this year.

“But I’m hopeful that if we can get the numbers down to a certain level we may get some form of normality.

“But people should get their digital Christmas ready.”
