Covid-19: Infection rate down in Delhi from 36% in April to 0.1% now

NEW DELHI: The national capital recorded 76 fresh Covid cases and one death on Saturday, while the positivity rate slipped to 0.09%. Before this, Delhi had recorded a daily fatality count of one over three months ago on March 21. Saturday’s fatality pushed the death toll in the city to 25,012.

On Tuesday, Delhi had reported 79 Covid cases and four fatalities. A day later, 93 cases and four deaths were recorded, according to official figures. On Friday, the daily infection tally was 81 and three deaths were recorded.

The city’s infection rate, which had reached 36% in the last week of April, has fallen below 0.1% now. The occupancy of Covid beds has also reduced sharply over the last one months. Delhi has a total of 13,931 Covid beds of which, data shows, only about 451 are occupied currently.

However, in view of a potential third wave, the government has decided to keep the beds reserved for Covid management. On Friday, DDMA passed a colour-coded response action plan under which curbs will be implemented in accordance with the severity of the Covid-19 situation to deal with a possible third wave. The state government has also started two genome-sequencing laboratories at LNJP and ILBS to detect newer variants.
